Qantas has revived the iconic ‘I still call Australia home’ campaign as part of its push to support local tourism operators and Australian small business. One way to access these local businesses is via the RedBalloon Gift Card that has been launched in the Frequent Flyer Store this month.

It is an emotional time all Australians. More than 6.4 million Australian’s will not be travelling overseas in 2020, which represents more than $50 billion that could be redirected to support local tourism.

A recent survey of Qantas Frequent Flyer members showed that 85% are looking forward to planning their next trip. However, the foreseeable future much of this travel appetite will be local.

Mckinsey.com recently reported that “While consumers’ optimism about Australia’s economic recovery has remained the same as COVID-19 has progressed, their concerns about spending, income, and job security have started to decrease.” The below graph shows an increase in demand for domestic travel, movies, concerts and other events.
